ABOUT
Big Dougie humbly shares a real-life story of ‘FHL’– FAITH, HOPE, and LOVE.
Dougie says, ‘I can now honestly share a journey of wonder on the topic of God and Faith’. I thank God I stayed open searching for answers through mentors and true stories of miracles as well as non-believers. Often others now ‘see’ God’s power and blessings through my survival and healings.
If anyone has doubts or is wandering as I did for so many years, I encourage you to look at these mentors who have helped me with my skepticism over the years:
Lee Strobel has helped me immensely in my search for truth. He was one of this century’s most critical skeptics and atheists. As a Yale law graduate and award winning investigative journalist, he spent years out to prove once and for all God does not exist!
Mr Francis Collins is also one of my kinds of researchers. He is an award-winning scientist, director of the National Institute of Health and a long-time devout atheist. Check them out as both men are leaders in their field of fact-finding.
These three individuals have also given me sound practical wisdom as survivors themselves! Their survival stories come from war, air crashes and diseases/birth defects.
Check out these Miracle men:
Nick Vujicic, Bob Wieland and Morris Goodman – incredible human beings!
DOUGIE, A NORMAL, ORDINARY MAN, IS PROOF OF A GREATER POWER TO SURVIVE.
Story - The Olympic Spirit is not Dead.
All my life I’ve wanted to be an Olympian.
The Olympic Games: Swifter —Higher — Stronger. It’s the elite in sport… isn’t it?
Sport is defined as a game or contest requiring physical activity. But the Olympic Spirit is so much more; it can reach into the very depths of the human soul and pound and build on the very character of the human spirit.
Ordinary men and women with extraordinary dreams and conviction — the Olympic Dream has been my motivator and many elite Olympians my mentors. I was never afraid of training, I love to train. It builds the very fabric of an individual, mentally, spiritually, and physically. A block of stone carved into a strong and beautiful form — that’s the power of dreaming to participate in the Olympics — I have always had the burn: Dream…struggle…victory!
I’m now fifty years old and never made it to the Olympic games — many other sporting comps but never the pinnacle — the Olympiad. But the Olympic Spirit over the years has been driven so deeply into my heart and brain that on April 22, 2003, at 5:05pm, a new Olympics started. As I lay on the cold hard road not able to see or touch my son, the Olympic Dream held fast. There were many spectators, screaming, lights and officials — but sadly not the sporting event I’d hoped for. The sporting injuries I’ve endured over the years put me closer to what is needed to push to an Olympics. I now compete in a new Olympiad — my personal Olympics to one day function, stand tall and walk again. I thank God for the Olympic principles, the Olympic Spirit I have trained for all my life — now I carry the torch to save a life and to encourage others.
Champions are not made in the ring; they are recognised in the ring! Written May, 2004.
